  1. I think the ones who have been at a facility for a while already expect the question. New(er) ones may not. You may want to start with asking them the events that led to their being there. Then work in the suicide question. Be prepared with your therapeutic communication if/when the floodgates open… you never know when someone will actually say yes!

  2. yikes, sounds intense!

  3. I done both, suicidal and not. Surprisingly the ones who are suicidal are easier to talk to because they are not offended by the question. It’s the Non-suicidal ones that get offended.
